Hummus Fan

Are you a fan of hummus? I am! It's so easy to make, too.

Homemade Hummus
1 can of garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed (I prefer Eden Foods brand)
2 tablespoons tahini
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
salt and pepper
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 garlic clove

Combine ingredients in a food processor and whirl it up until smooth but still a little chunky. Slather on a tortilla, fresh veggies or whatever else your heart desires.

Here's what it looks like:
For my lunch yesterday I put some hummus on a tortilla and added some lettuce, pumpkin seeds, goat cheese and a splash of balsamic vinegar. It was really good. I topped off my lunch with some tangerines and chocolate.
What's your favorite flavor of hummus and what do you put it on?

I absolutely adore hummus!!! It is so easy to make - my recipe is the same as yours except for the cumin. I love to season my hummus with Za'atar, which is a middle eastern seasoning made of wild thyme, sea salt, sesame seeds and sumac (an herb). My favorite way to have hummus is on ryvita crisp breads with alfalfa sprouts on top. But your wrap looks pretty good too!

PS my kids found a hilarious rap song about hummus on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIybz6axr1Q

The line, "Hit me, hit me, hit me with a chick pea" just cracks us up!

Hi Amy,

The video is very funny, thanks for sharing the link. Now the song is stuck in my head. :)

Do you ever flavor your hummus with roasted bell peppers or anything like that? I've noticed a lot of stores sell flavored options, but so far I've only made plain at home.

I know what you mean about that song getting stuck in your head...

I've never done any other kind of flavoring with my hummus. I did notice that last time I was in the US how there are so many hummus flavors you can buy! I tried one with artichoke and spinach that I loved. I guess I am just too lazy or set in my ways to branch out at home! Have fun in Palm Desert - the funny thing is, I was just there in November and I thought it was so beautiful there - so different from here!

Hi Amy,

Yes, flavored hummus seems to be popular. I think I'll stick with plain for now. Wow, that is great that you got to visit Palm Desert. What was the occasion? Did you do any golfing? It is a beautiful location.

Take care,

Carrie

No golfing, but my mom and I got a run in! We were driving from Dallas TX to a family wedding in Carlsbad CA and we made a big adventurous roadtrip out of it - it was great! Gosh, what would I give for some of tha CA weather right now - I am so fed up with the cold... I'll just have to enjoy it vicariously thru you!

Hi Amy,

WOW, that is some road trip! If I go hiking this weekend, I'll be sure to take some photos. The weather is beautiful here in the winter. There are tons of "snow birds" here from Washington, Canada and many other cold weather areas.
